Join us for open, personal conversations with "human books" to foster empathy and challenge stigma in a safe, inclusive space.

This Human Library facilitates open, personal conversations relating to gender equity to challenge stigma and stereotypes in a safe space.


At this event, you will have the opportunity to engage as a “reader” with diverse "human books" who share their powerful stories.


These include:

· a woman who has experienced homelessness and now has her own chilli sauce business, from ImpactHK (English & Cantonese),

· Beyond Binary, exploring gender fluidity, intersectionality and empowerment through storytelling, from Awkward Conversations (English & Cantonese)

· a woman who has recovered from an eating disorder, from the re:think (English),

· a gender studies professor, academic, artist and advocate educating the public on gender and sexuality (English, Cantonese & Mandarin),

· a single woman who recently adopted a child and author of "Why Being GOOD is Bad for Us" (English),

· ethnic minority women who grew up disadvantaged in Hong Kong from The Amber Foundation (English),

· Music to Mystic facing the challenges that life presents : a woman departed the toxic music industry to devote her life to acquiring deep spiritual wisdom through holistic medicine and the study of the self (English),

· Changemaker's Journey, a woman who empowers girls and women to be explorers and changemakers

· a woman who was late diagnosed ADD and shares why missed diagnosis often happens with women (English & Cantonese)

· a male ally promoting allyship of women and creating safe spaces for men

· a foreign domestic helper sharing her story and personal dreams and goals


Join us to hear their experiences, learn from their journeys, and participate in meaningful dialogue that promotes understanding and equity.


Details:

· Show up at the Community Stage anytime between 5:30pm-7:30pm and take a seat at a table with any of the books

· Stay with your “book” for as long or as little as you want

· Be curious, ask thoughtful questions and listen to other readers’ and their questions too

· Feel free to move between books as you wish

· Be mindful that these are open sessions, so you may be joining a conversation that is already in progress

This event is proudly part of the "Lift Her Up" Gender Equity Day at the AIA Carnival.

Our mission is to empower women and promote gender equity in all aspects of life.

By participating in this day, you're joining a larger movement dedicated to uplifting women, fostering inclusivity, and creating a supportive community where everyone can thrive.

Sensory-friendly space:

Sensory-friendly area at the AIA Carnival! The SF Express Community “A-Bus” is located near the Carnival entrance.

The "A" in A-Bus stands for “Accessibility,” “Autism,” “Art,” and “All.” This space is designed to offer a calm and welcoming environment for neurodivergent individuals and their caregivers. If you experience sensory overload, you can retreat to the A-Bus for a break and relaxation.


Carnival entryTicket registration for this event includes complimentary AIA Carnival access on the day. Complimentary access can be used at anytime on the day to experience the carnival before the event start time.
